Guest Commentator: Ezekiel Rhymes
Hey Everybody! I felt the need to post a piece that I just wrote. I hope that you will be blessed by it.

"In 2016 we have come to a dangerous time. The time when we all want peace, and yet don't lift a finger to help, a time when we say that skin color doesn't matter, but skin color is the main reason why many people are being slaughtered. We have come to a point of supreme complacency, a time where we blame the oppressors, and idolize the tyrants, and then wonder why there is so much strife and pain. We are at a time when we have to call a spade a spade and call things for what they are, not coming in with pre-conceived ideas, to empty our minds of our desires and see with a scope free of mire to see what is really going on. We have been fed lies to be complacent, and in turn we start blaming those who are oppressed.

In terms of the Dallas shooting, I am saddened of this tragedy, and injustice, yet I do not see the need to say that ALL black people are spree shooters just waiting to happen, as the same way that I do not feel the need to say that ALL police officers are evil. But what I do say is this, that when we see something like Dallas, we should also look for something that could have kick-started it. To borrow from St. Thomas Aquinas' argument that says, in this world things move, and if they move, they must be moved by something else, for an object, or action, cannot be moved by itself.

The movers of the action in Dallas were these; the brutalization of police officers against unarmed black folks, the demonization of black people, the killings of black people by police officers, the Jim Crow laws in the 20th century to throw in prison, and kill black people for minor crimes. The killings, and torturing of vigilante groups all over the country against people of color, Slavery, and forced labor for people of color, as well as unjust laws during the formation of the U.S. and while the U.S. was still a colony to the British. I see that there is a mountain of evidence of who the "mover" of the Dallas killings might be; I have personally seen (through social media, news, and other forms of media) a vast amount of people who have been looking at Dallas, and believe that this was put into play by itself! I view this belief as not only wrong, but also illogical. When we see a fresh-cut lawn, do we automatically assume that the lawn was cut by itself? No! We believe ( and rightly so) that a lawn-mower that was controlled by a person cut the lawn. Then why should we use this thinking in terms of what happened in Dallas.

The answer (at least what I believe) is that we in American
society have been fed the lie that blacks are inherently violent, or evil and many of these beliefs have been transferred through trends, such as the idea that black automatically means "ghetto," or "thug." Then in turn we (society) make an effort to silence those who speak out against those false ideas, so that those who speak the truth will be silence by the crowd of society. And if those devices of brainwashing of society do not work, well just think of the names Philando Castile, and Alton Sterling. This is why we need a sense of urgency, this is not just a debate in America that we read in the morning paper, this a matter of life and death, these are people's lives at stake! We cannot be sitting on the fence with this issue, we must pick a side, of either life or death (preferably life).This is an issue that we have been talking about since this country was formed (even before).

This is not a matter that I can be soft with, or dance around. These are people's lives, we must choose to see the hypocrisy of having our declaration of independence say "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are LIFE, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness," and yet kill our country's men and women.

This is why we are so angry, this is why we are outraged, this is why some of us want justice so bad that (in their minds) will take it by any means necessary. This is an issue that requires intense thinking, and intense purging of the wrong inclinations, ideas, or desires that we have, it will take striving to understand this, but love requires that we do so: 'Love suffers long and is kind... is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:4,6-7).' The words that I spoke, though some may interpret them as hard, or even mean-spirited, but the words that I just spoke, I spoke in love. I pray to God that He will hopefully work in your lives for good through this piece. God Bless you all."
